We announce our charity of the year, StreetVet

We are delighted to announce our charity of the year for 2024/25 and share commitments to help those experiencing homelessness with their pet.
LiveWest colleagues come together to complete sponsored bike ride for StreetVet.

StreetVet is a multi-award-winning charity that delivers free veterinary care and services through its network of outreach services. Volunteer vets and vet nurses provide care for the pets of those experiencing homelessness across the UK.

This year we will support the charity to help improve the lives of hundreds of pets, giving their owners one less thing to worry about with the support of StreetVet’s services.

To help raise money for this heartwarming charity, our colleagues have organised a variety of fundraising activities, including a pet competition, golf day, sponsored bike ride, motorbike event and more.

In a short space of time so far, our colleagues have already raised £2,500 from our sponsored bike ride and internal event, and the donation total will be matched by LiveWest.

Stewart Tudor-Jackman, our Head of Organisational Learning and Talent Management, continues to get involved and help arrange the charity activities, he said: “We are delighted to have StreetVet as our charity of the year. This year we asked colleagues to nominate their favourite charities, and then vote to select one we would support. StreetVet was the runaway winner.

“We’re raising money through a range of events – quiz nights, pet photo competitions, golf days, bake sales and much more besides.

“Our fundraising activities will support many people and their pets, who find themselves in difficult circumstances.”

Collette Sheaff, Head of Marketing at StreetVet, said: “We are incredibly proud to have been chosen by the colleagues of LiveWest to be its charity of the year partner for 2024/25. The donations that we will receive from LiveWest throughout this partnership will help StreetVet continue our vital work in providing free veterinary care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness across the UK. By helping the pets, we are helping their owners too.

“Unfortunately, the need for our services continues to rise significantly, especially since the cost of living crisis. Funding is crucial in allowing us to meet this increase in demand, so all the funds raised will have a significant impact in helping us to continue the work we do.”

More about Street Vet

StreetVet is an award-winning national charity dedicated to delivering free, accessible veterinary care and services to pets belonging to those experiencing homelessness.

Inspired by a chance encounter between co-founder Jade Statt and a homeless gentleman with his dog, StreetVet was founded in 2016 to take veterinary care out onto the streets and to the people and pets that need it most and now has over 500 vet and vet nurse volunteers.

Recognising that less than 10% of UK hostels are pet-inclusive, StreetVet launched the StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme in 2020. This initiative aims to make it easier for hostels to welcome pets, ensuring owners and their beloved companions can stay together.

To further support pet owners experiencing homelessness, StreetVet is piloting a new accreditation scheme for day centres and hubs. This scheme will enable individuals with pets to access essential medical services and other support networks in a safe and pet-inclusive environment.
