Patrick and his wife, Lynne, have seen their energy bills reduce since their home was revamped with new solar panels, loft insulation, ventilation and night storage heaters.
Their home is one of hundreds that have been upgraded in our Cby28 Programme to improve its energy efficiency to meet energy performance standards of C and above.
Patrick reflects on the retrofit works, he said: “We’ve had new storage heaters put in the bedroom, living room and the hallway and we are very pleased with the result.
“It’s nice and warm and the workmen have been excellent. Everything has been first class.
“We will notice the difference with the solar panels in the summer when it’s sunnier and we have more light on the panels but yes, it’s helped.
“It will help with our energy bills, every penny.
“Everything during the day like the freezers are all running off the solar panels so it’s not costing us anything during the day at the moment.”

Their home was one of around 80 homes that have benefited from the retrofit works in Yealmpton, Devon thanks to Wave Two of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund delivered by the Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
This partnership has helped us secure £8.5 million in funding to undertake retrofit works at over 900 homes.
For this project, we have partnered alongside Plymouth City Council Consortium, who has seen us undertaking 146 retrofits in Plymouth and the surrounding area of South West Devon.
Patrick continues to reflect on the works and the difference their new heaters have made to their home. He said: “We’ve got a nice warm home to come home to. It’s lovely and at nighttime as well.
“With the old storage heaters, at nighttime they were old but, these are excellent.”
