Love your planet this Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we think now is a great time to show the Earth some love.

Traditional Valentine’s Day habits such as flowers, cards, gifts, and food can create more waste than we realise. But with a few thoughtful swaps, you can celebrate in ways that are just as meaningful and much more sustainable.

1.   Skip the bouquet and give a potted plant instead.

Just as beautiful as cut flowers, but longer lasting and better for the planet.

2.    Keep it sweet with fair-trade chocolate.

Look for the fair-trade symbol on packaging to ensure your treats support ethical and sustainable practices.

3.    Make a homemade card.

A handwritten note or DIY card adds a personal touch while reducing waste.

4.    Choose recyclable or reusable wrapping.

Choose recyclable paper, fabric wraps, or reusable gift bags instead of single-use materials.

5.    Share a local meal.

Whether dining out or cooking at home, choosing local ingredients supports your community and avoids unnecessary packaging.

6.    Plan a date night at home

Make time to slow down together. Cook a meal from scratch, play board games, or share a bottle of wine. Meaningful moments don’t have to cost more or create more waste.

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate love in a way that’s kind to both your partner and the planet.
