LiveWest join forces with radio station and volunteers to hold planting day

LiveWest volunteers teamed up with The Voice radio station and a number of residents to take part in a fun planting day in Barnstaple.

The aim was to transform the courtyard at Belle Meadow Court, a 57-flat development in Albert Road, by replanting 40 pots and large planters across the site.

Funding from LiveWest of £250 through its Community Investment fund was used towards the cost of a plant and flower facelift in the courtyard and around the exterior at the development.

St John’s Garden Centre also donated three lots of £10 gift vouchers, which were given out as a raffle prize on the day.

The centre’s owner visited to pass on tips over what plants would be best to use.

The community project was designed to encourage residents at the scheme to become more involved in their outside space and develop new skills and knowledge around how to create year-round planters.

Members of the team from The Voice were on site to lend a hand and made sandwiches for the team.

LiveWest Community Development Worker, Alison Knight, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the community came together to support what was a lovely planting event at Belle Meadow.

“Thank you to everyone who has been involved including The Voice radio station and St John’s Garden Centre for the vouchers, practical support and advice. Also a big thanks to Simon, the Estate Co-ordinator from LiveWest, for his contribution to this project.

“The outside areas look great and will make a huge difference to the residents living there.”

Due to the wet weather, Age Concern let the team use their building to continue the project and LiveWest staff put on refreshments.

LiveWest Estate Officer, Simon Harvey, said: “We always love it when our customers take pride and care in making their homes look so vibrant.

“This great event really encourages our customers to get involved and also we benefit from having regular volunteers at Belle Meadow Court.”
