At LiveWest, we are committed to promoting sustainable living in our mission to Creating Greener Futures Together.

Recycling plays a vital role in reducing waste and preserving our environment. This March, we’re sharing five practical recycling tips to help you live more sustainably.

1. Reuse and reclaim second-hand items

Instead of buying new, consider purchasing second-hand items from charity shops, recycling centres, or online sites such as Vinted, Depop or eBay.
This reduces waste and gives perfectly good items a second life. From furniture to clothing, second-hand purchases can be both budget-friendly and eco-friendly.

2. Donate or recycle unwanted items

If you have items you no longer need, don’t let them go to waste. Take them to your nearest recycling centre, donate them to a charity shop or use one of the websites mentioned above.
Many charities and websites accept clothes, furniture, and household goods, ensuring that items are reused rather than ending up in landfill.

3. Properly dispose of your waste

Household rubbish such as glass, paper, carboard, cans and plastic can mostly be recycled. You will be able to get your recycling bins through the council which will help you dispose of your waste in the most eco-friendly way.

4. Properly dispose of food waste

Food waste can be recycled through your local council’s food waste collection service. Make sure to place food waste in biodegradable bags or wrap it in newspaper before disposal. This helps keep the collection process efficient and environmentally friendly.

5. Start composting at home

If you have a garden, composting is a fantastic way to recycle food scraps and organic waste. Compost enriches soil, reduces the need for chemical fertilisers, and cuts down on household waste.
Items like vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells make great composting material.

By following these simple tips, you can make a positive impact on the environment while maintaining a more sustainable household. Small actions lead to big changes, so join us in Creating Greener Futures Together.
