At Gwel Woon, we’ve recently welcomed 30 new socially-rented homes to Troon, Cornwall alongside partners Gilbert and Goode and it also had funding from Homes England.
This new development in the heart of a vibrant and rural area, has helped local people stay connected to their communities.
Chelsea Tonkins, who has recently moved into her two-bedroom home with her daughter, reflects on the move. She said: “It was a very smooth process moving here because I was in temporary accommodation before we moved into the house we have now.
“It’s our own home... it’s a really nice house and it's big. My daughter has got a lot of space and we have a garden which is really needed.
“LiveWest have supported me. When I came to view the property, the colleague who showed me around he explained everything about the solar panels and the air source heating too and he made sure all my questions were answered.
“He said to me that if I have any more questions that I can just contact LiveWest and he was really really helpful.”

The rural development has helped Chelsea and Laina-Louise be closer to her daughter's school and family which has been very useful.
Being able to see farmland for fields and fields, Chelsea also enjoys seeing the stunning outlook of greenery from her home.
She said: “I actually prefer being more rural. Although yes, we are a little bit out the way we are still close to a lot of things.”
There is also a sustainability element to this new scheme as the homes have achieved an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of A. The homes benefit from PV in the roofs, air source heat pumps, solar panels and EV charging points.
Chelsea reflects on the energy efficiency of the home and the positive impact it’s had already. She said: “It is a weight off my shoulders because from comparing prices here to the temporary accommodation that we were in. From electric alone, I am saving quite a lot of money.
“The electric here is a lot cheaper than the house I was previously in which is obviously a great thing because bills are really expensive so by having the solar panels it has saved me some money which I am now able to put elsewhere where it’s needed.”
