Theresa Tyack and her neighbours at Goodern Drive flats, Truro wanted to spend more time in their communal garden, but this was often uncomfortable as it was located on a slope. Theresa and her husband came up with the idea of creating a dry and level decking area. She shared this idea with her neighbours, who all loved it, especially as they all wanted to spend more time outside throughout the coronavirus pandemic. One resident even designed a plan for how the decking could best work in the available space. Next they worked out the cost of materials and labour to have the decking installed, but shocked by the price, residents then started to think that this idea would have to remain a dream, as they could only afford to cover half of the total cost.
But after speaking to their LiveWest Housing Officer, Dave Hatcher and Community Connector, Mai Evans they found out that they could apply for a LiveWest grant to use towards the cost of their new deck.
LiveWest Community Connector, Mai Evans said: ''This great project is exactly what our Supporting communities' grants are for. I can see the new decking has given our customers a real sense of pride and we were delighted to provide funding of about £400 to cover half of the costs needed for the new decking. We were also very lucky that the work was able to be completed before England started a national lockdown in November, meaning this neighbourhood has really been able to enjoy their new garden over the past few weeks.''
LiveWest customer, Theresa Tyack said: “Everyone is grateful to LiveWest for their approval for the funding and their help in turning this space into such a welcoming communal area.”
LiveWest Housing Officer, Dave Hatcher said: “It was great being part of this project and supporting our customers at Goodern Drive to makeover their communal garden.”
