Our South Hams customers get energy wise

Monday 18/12/2017

We are working closely with South Dartmoor Community Energy (SDCE) to help ensure our customers are energy wise over the coming winter. We are supporting the SDCE Energy Advice Team to provide free and impartial energy advice to customers to help them get their fuel bills under control and to stay warm and well.

This past month around 33 energy advice drop in sessions were held reaching over 900 people across the South Hams, they provided help on switching providers, paying bills and applying for warm homes funding.

We own around 3,000 properties in the South Hams and our customers have been able to access the energy advice via local drop in advice surgeries, talks to groups, at events, home visits and via Freephone 0800 112 3044. The energy advisors will provide practical assistance to help customers switch to cheaper energy tariffs, apply for extra support from fuel companies, better control their heating and reduce damp and condensation.

Charlotte Grosvenor, Community Development Worker said: “With energy prices on the rise and bills often confusing we’re really pleased to be able to offer our customers access to the SDCE advisors who are the experts in this area. We hope that with their support our customers will be able to take control of their bills and have a comfortable winter without worrying about whether they can afford to put the heating on or not.”

South Dartmoor Community Energy is a registered not for profit community benefit society. Based in Ivybridge they work across the South Hams to alleviate fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and help people get involved in community owned renewable energy projects.

SDCE Director Katie Reville commented: “It’s fantastic that LiveWest are supporting us to deliver this project. Our experience over last winter showed us that there is definitely a need for this sort of advice and support. Although this project is about specifically supporting those in LiveWest properties, our energy advice service is available to all South Hams residents.”

Information on our drop in advice sessions and other activities are all available on our website www.southdartmoorcommunityenergy.org or by calling 0800 112 3044.
